Why should you travel to Sapa? Lying in the northwest of Vietnam and near the border of China, Sapa is much worth visiting. Same as other places in the northwest, Sapa is surrounded by terraced rice fields, high mountains. Especially, Fansipan - the highest mountain in the Indochinese Peninsula (comprising Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia) - which is challenging for adventurers.

Wet season

The wet season lasts from June to September, and it is not a good choice to visit Sapa. The period from June to September also coincides with the high domestic season so it might be crowded and surrounded by domestic tourists.


From September to mid-December, the weather is perfect for sightseeing, photo-taking, and camping trips, making it one of the best times to visit Sapa. The temperature ranges from 15 – 25 degrees Celsius. This is not a rainy season so the trekking routes are dry and bear which helps do longer treks and possibly conquers Mount Fansipan. In winter, the temperature is much cooler so you should wear warm clothing (good waterproof jacket, sweater, wool socks). Also, during the winter months, there are periods of light rain and heavy fog. Therefore, you might have a chance to admire the cloudy sightseeing and take fantastic photos.


From late December to February, the temperature in Sapa might be at the number of zero and be affected by cold winds stemming from China. Thus, this might not be a good time to take a trip there, but if you love snow and winter, don’t forget to check it out. Just remember to avoid trekking, hiking, other adventurous activities.


Dry season

The dry season is from January to June, but from January to February, tourists might feel the chilly weather and cold air. March to May is another great time to travel to Sapa, with sunny days, good weather, and fresh air. June is an unstable month; sometimes wet season comes earlier in mid-June, so tourists should be mindful of June, too.


How to get to this dreaming city


The first-ever destination you should drop by before getting to Sapa is Hà Nội if you travel by flights since Nội Bài Airport (in Hà Nội of course) is the nearest one to Sapa.

Most tourists choose the trains, especially the night trains from Hà Nội as it is more comfortable and safer than using bikes or buses. It will take you around 8 hours to get there. And of course, nothing can be compared that you can have a chance to admire the sunrise when you’re dropped off in Sapa.

Moreover, you can take some buses which is the cheapest way to visit Sapa. It might cost you around $9 for one ticket. There are some bus companies you can search for the tickets, but you should pay attention to truthful ones to avoid bad situations.
